A regenerativelyheated glass melting furnace of the tank type has a movable U- shaped partition wall 19 between the firing and conditioning zones defining with a coverplate 42 and end-plates a pressure chamber in which is maintained a slightly higher pressure than that in the furnace. This prevents the passage of corrosive dust from the raw materials through joints in the wall. This latter is made of silica brick 23, 24 suspended from hangers 26 on a framework 27 supported by I-beams 28 which may be moved vertically by jacks 31. Horizontal headers 45 are formed with slots directing air against the lower wall 24, and vertical pipes 46 extending from a header 50 are formed with slots directing air against side-walls 23.</p> |
