Sealing mat, especially for dike construction

The sealing mat has a sheet material (1), a cover strip (2) and a bentonite layer (3) arranged between the sheet material and the cover strip. The layer is made of bentonite or other swellable material, and a protective layer (5) protecting against rodents e.g. mice, is arranged on the cover strip and/or the sheet material. The protective layer has a steel lattice, a metal foil with thickness of more than 0.3 millimeter, and a plastic lattice or plastic foil with additives used for killing or driving out the rodents. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a sealing mat.
