PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device which can be operated at increased speed by reducing a seek operation. SOLUTION: After reading immediately before a defect area 20 (solid-line arrow A), seeking is carried out to an inner spare area (broken-line arrow A-A), alternative data 21 corresponding to the defect area 20 is read (solid-line arrow B), and another alternative data 22 of a file system is read (solid-line arrow C). Then, returning to the file system area (broken-line arrow C-C) to continue reading (solid-line arrow D), reading is carried out immediately before a defect area 23. At this time, since alternative data 22 corresponding to the defect area 23 has been read, using the alternative data 22 of a read buffer, and jumping the defect area 23 (broken-line arrow D-E), reading is continued to the last file system area, and thus reading of the file system is completed.
