PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a presser foot device for a sewing machine, which enhances operatability and excellent in usability while not hindering during sewing and a sewing machine with the presser foot device. SOLUTION: The presser foot device 14 for moving up and down a presser foot 10 along with a presser bar 8 is arranged in the head portion of the sewing machine. The presser foot device 14 has: a press-up lever 13 used in the operation for moving up and down the presser foot 10; and a supporting mechanism 30 for supporting the press-up lever 13 so as to switch the position of the same to a first position located in a pocket section below the arm section of the sewing machine and a second position located behind the head portion. The press-up lever 13 can be switched to the first position or the second position according to the using situation or the size of the worked cloth, so that the usability can be improved.
