PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration in image quality by changing parameters used for the image processing of a couple of front-surface and rear-surface image data in accordance with the read image. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus is provided with an image processing means for conducting image processing using parameters for the front surface and rear surface of a document sheet to the front-surface image data and rear-surface image data obtained by reading almost simultaneously the front-surface and rear-surface images of the document sheet, a storing means for storing the parameters, and a control means for changing parameters based on the similarity of the front-surface and rear-surface images to the first parameters for matching characteristics of the front-surface and rear-surface images as parameters for either surface or to the second parameters in accordance with the read image regardless of the front-surface and rear-surface images.
