PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine equipped with a scavenging control valve device capable of accurately controlling an opening area of a scavenging passage to a target opening area by successfully maintaining sealing performance of a sliding contact part of a scavenging control valve with a cylinder liner, of improving durability of a piston ring and the cylinder liner by enabling complete closing of the scavenging passage to inhibit blowing back of working gas through the scavenging passage and of reducing lubricating oil consumption for cylinder oil filling. SOLUTION: The rotation type scavenging control valve 1 provided movably along the inner peripheral face of the cylinder liner 10 and opening/closing a scavenging hole 12 to change the opening area of the scavenging passage to inside of a combustion chamber 14 and a hydraulic cylinder 3 for driving the scavenging control valve 1 corresponding to an engine crank angle are provided inside the cylinder liner 3.
