<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of a power transmission device for a vehicle capable of alleviating a sense of discomfort at the time of the manual shift operation in the control device of a power transmission device for a vehicle capable of switching to any shift range by manual switching while a continuously variable shift state and a stepped shift state are generated by being switched during automatic gear shift operation. <P>SOLUTION: The number of shift ranges generated by manual switching is set equal to or less than the number of stepped shift stages, so even when the continuously variable shift state is switched to the stepped shift state, for example, switching of shift ranges for the number of the shift stages is enabled.
