Organosilanes, e.g. trimethyl chlorosilanes, alone or in admixture with ketones, aldehydes, organic acids or anhydrides thereof and alcohols, are reacted with a per-carboxylic acid, e.g. peracetic and perpropionic acid, in the presence of a condensing agent to give a peroxy compound. Mineral acids, e.g. sulphuric and perchloric, boron fluoride etherate, hetero-polyacids, e.g. silico-tungstic acid, zinc chloride, t-amines such as pyridine or Lewis acids may be used as the condensing agents. Example 12 describes the preparation of hexamethyl-disilyl peroxide from trimethyl chlorosilane and peracetic acid in the presence of pyridine. Specification 811,893 is referred to.ALSO:Peroxy compounds are prepared by reacting a ketone, aldehyde, organic acid or anhydride thereof, alcohol, or an organosilane or mixtures thereof with a percarboxylic acid, e.g. peracetic and perpropionic acid, in the presence of a condensing agent. Acetone, cyclohexanone, methyl ethyl ketone, benzaldehyde, chloraldehyde, t-butyl alcohol, acetic and benzoic aldehydes, lauric acid and trimethyl chlorosilane are treated at temperatures between - 10 DEG C. and 75 DEG C. and examples of condensing agents are mineral acids, perchloric acid, boron fluoride etherate, heteropoly acids such as silico-tungstic acid, zinc chloride, t-amines such as pyrimidine and Lewis acids. The peroxide or hydroperoxide products are separated by distillation or by separation into layers. Specification 811,893 is referred to. |
