The method involves manufacturing an instrument panel carrier (10) with a thickened area section (12) in a forming tool. The area section on a carrier side turned away to a slush-skin and/or on a carrier side turned away to an inner side of a carrier, is hardened. A forming tool with skin is merged with another forming tool with the carrier to form a two-part forming tool. A gap in the two-part forming tool is foamed by forming an additional intermediate layer in the section, where the layer is made of foaming plastic. The merging and foaming processes are invariably implemented. An independent claim is also included for an instrument panel comprising an intermediate layer.
