PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress heat generation from the wires by suppressing variation of coercive force throughout the manufacturing processes, enabling magnetization inversion control to be certainly conducted by setting the ratio of (maximum value of the inverted magnetic field)/(minimum value thereof) of the reversed magnetic field to be less than 2 for respective cells, and reducing the magnetic field necessary for the magnetization inversion. SOLUTION: A magneto-optic device for a spatial optical modulator includes a magnetic garnet film disposed on the substrate, which is partitioned into a plurality of cells arrayed in a two-dimensional array shape, and has X side wires and Y side wires to independently invert the magnetization of respective cells formed thereon. Here, the magnetic garnet film is composed of a magnetic garnet single crystal represented by Tb<SB>x</SB>R<SB>3-x-y</SB>Bi<SB>y</SB>Fe<SB>5-z</SB>M<SB>z</SB>O<SB>12</SB>(where R is Y, Gd, M is Al, Ga, In), 0.7≤x≤1.6, 0.7≤y≤1.5, 0≤z≤1.3, and is annealed at 980-1,040°C for 1-5 hours, and the maximum of the coercive force of each cell is≤16 kA/m and a maximum/minimum ratio is less than 2.
