Method and welding device for connecting sheets of material

The method involves producing a temporary guide marking (18) on an overlapped sheet of material (2) e.g. plastic foil, by a marking device (13) arranged at an automatic welding machine along an edge (16) of an overlapping sheet of material (3). The guide marking is detected with a sensor device i.e. opto-electronic sensor (14), during the movement of the automatic welding machine, where a control signal is formed for a display unit and/or for steerability, and the automatic welding machine is movable by the control signal exactly along trajectory provided by the produced guide marking. An independent claim is also included for an automatic welding machine for connecting sheets of material arranged with overlapping edges.
