The method involves selecting a subscriber identity for registration by a mobile communication device i.e. mobile phone (102) to a mobile network (124), and receiving a network identity of the mobile network, when the mobile network registration of the subscriber identity is refused. Another subscriber identity is determined for registration with the mobile network based on the received network identity, and the latter subscriber identity is selected for registration by the mobile communication device in the mobile network. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) software for selecting a suitable subscriber identity in a mobile communications device (2) a smartcard for use in a mobile communication device (3) a mobile phone.
