The invention relates to a processing system (1) for the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine (100), that comprises an NO_x trap (10) arranged upstream from a particle filter (20). The invention is characterised in that the NO_x trap (10) is capable of purging nitrogen oxides in the form of NO₂ from an exhaust gas temperature higher than or equal to 2500°C, and in that the particle filter (20) is impregnated with a catalytic composition of the NO_x trap type.
