A method for continuously producing absorbent garments (21) comprising forming a continuous multi-component production web (22), the production web (22) having an intermediate zone (2) extending in a travelling direction (MD) and a first and a second lateral zone (3, 4) on each side of the intermediate zone (2) each lateral zone including an edge zone (6, 7) extending along an edge (8, 9) of the production web (22); and cutting individual garments (21 ) from the production web The method for forming the production web (22) comprises the steps of: a) feeding a first elastic web (24) in the travelling direction (MD); b) stretching the first elastic web (24) by 35-250% in the travelling direction (MD); c) intermittently laying down absorbent cores (33) in the intermediate zone (2) of the production web (22); c) feeding a continuous web (23) of liquid permeable material in the travelling direction (MD) and covering the absorbent cores (33) with the continuous web (23) of liquid permeable material, the continuous web (23) of liquid permeable material having a width at least corresponding to the width of the production web (22) between the edge zones (6, 7); e) bonding the first elastic web (24) to the continuous web of liquid permeable material (23) in the first lateral zone (3) of the production web (22), the first elastic web (24) being applied to the production web (22) before or after application of the continuous web (23) of liquid permeable material. An absorbent garment having a continuous liquid permeable layer is also disclosed. |
