PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a specific gravity of refuse stored in a hopper by an inexpensive device configuration, and to easily carry out bridge detection also. SOLUTION: A plurality of pressure sensors 9 is attached at certain intervals in vertical and horizontal directions on a sidewall of the hopper 2 storing refuse W. Presence or absence of refuse in the hopper 2 at pressure sensor attachment positions are detected by electric signals from the pressure sensors 9. Refuse weight of a predetermined section is calculated on the basis of the electric signals from the vertically arranged pressure sensors 9, a refuse volume of the predetermined section is calculated from the electric signals and attachment position information of the pressure sensors 9, and the refuse specific gravity is calculated from the calculated refuse weight and refuse volume.
