PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ballast water sterilization/storage method, a metal ion adsorption method, and a ballast water discharge method as an example of a method which enables low-energy, low-cost and effective sterilization of ballast water, and enables discharging the sterilized ballast water after making it harmless to the ecosystem. SOLUTION: The ballast water sterilization/storage method, the metal ion adsorption method, and the ballast water discharge method use a specific metal type zeolite structure and Na type zeolite structure as a filter in the ballast water intake process and the ballast water discharge process respectively.
