PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly safe degradation inhibitor of lutein, having excellent activities for preventing the degradation of the lutein (such as activities for preventing photodegradation of the lutein), and to provide a food and drink utilizing the degradation inhibitor of the lutein.

SOLUTION: The degradation inhibitor of the lutein contains an extract of Astragalus complanatus R.Br. The food and drink contain the degradation inhibitor of the lutein.
