PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filling apparatus for a packaging machine which suppresses a while up phenomenon of an article to be packaged at the time of filling by compressing the article to be packaged in a funnel and filling it into a packaging bag under a small bulk condition, and attempts to perform speed-up of a filling operation. SOLUTION: A lower slide 22 fitted with the funnel 23 and an upper slide 38 fitted with a pushing rod 39 for pressing the article to be packaged fed in the funnel are provided so as to be elevated and lowered on respective guide bars 20 arranged correspondingly to respective processes on a rotary table 15 provided so as to move a plurality of the processes synchronized with a rotor 4 of the packaging machine. In the funnel 23, a pair of opening/closing pieces 25 and 31 for opening and closing a discharging outlet are provided so as to oscillate on the lower end part of a funnel body. A cam follower 33 on the opening/closing piece 31 side is engaged to a cam channel 27 on the opening/closing piece 25 side, and both opening/closing pieces are provided so as to close to a bill-like shape by a coil spring 35, and both opening/closing pieces 25 and 31 are opened by a cooperative operation of the cam follower 33 and the cam channel 27 by moving a roller 28 of the opening/closing piece 25 by an air pressure cylinder 42.
