PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure highly precise detection of a mark formed on a carrier. SOLUTION: This image forming device of the present invention is provided with a formation means for forming the plurality of marks K, Y, M, C on the carrier 18, an irradiation means for irradiating the carrier and the plurality of marks with light, a photoreception means for generating photoreception signals in response to reflected light quantities from the carrier and the plurality of marks, and a detecting means for detecting positions of the plurality of marks, based on the photoreception signals. The detecting means judges the marks detected under the first condition Vth1 out of the plurality of marks, as the usual marks Y, M, C, judges the mark detected under the second condition Vth2 more severe than the first condition as a trigger mark Tg(K), out of the plurality of marks, and sets prescribed periodsτd,τm concerned in the detection of the plurality of marks, in response to the detection of the trigger mark.
