PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the determination precision of the denomination of a coin without being affected by any foreign matter, or without hindering the mounting of a conveyance belt which conveys a coin by rotating a coin to which infrared reaction ink is adhered only by a prescribed distance, and detecting the angle of rotation of a coin based on the change of the position of the infrared reaction ink, and discriminating the denomination based on the outer diameter of the coin calculated from the relation of the distance and the angle of rotation. SOLUTION: A coin recognition device is provided with an ink application means for adhering infrared reaction ink to a coin to be conveyed on a conveyance path; an image acquisition means for acquiring the image of a coin before and after the rotation of the coin only by a prescribed distance; an angle of rotation detection means for detecting the angle of rotation of the coin accompanied by its rotation from the position of the image of the infrared reaction ink included in the acquired image of the coin; an outer diameter calculation means for calculating the outer diameter of the coin from the detected angle of rotation; and a denomination discriminating means for discriminating the denomination of the coin based on the calculated outer diameter of the coin.
