PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve user's convenience in a map display technology. SOLUTION: A map display system includes: a map image data storage means storing map image data representing a map image; a position data storage means storing position data representing the position of a specific object present on the map image; a map image display means displaying, on the basis of the map image data, the prescribed display range of the map image on a display section; a display range acquisition means acquiring display range specifying information for specifying the display range; a specific object retrieving means retrieving, on the basis of the position data, a specific object present in a prescribed direction outside area which is an area outside the display range and in a prescribed direction from the display range; and a specific object display means performing display of specific object relating to the retrieved specific object in a manner enabling recognition of the prescribed direction on the display section.
