The method involves controlling two drive systems i.e. combustion engine (102), and an electric motor-operated drive (103), of a vehicle i.e. hybrid vehicle, depending on data detected by an air quality sensor (104) and/or a video camera (105) and/or a communication system (106) from a terrestrial transmitter that is provided outside of vehicle and represents the direct environment of the vehicle. The concentrations of components that are injurious to health are determined using the quality sensor. The vehicle environment is visually detected by the camera using pattern recognition of objects. An independent claim is also included for a two drive systems controlling device comprising a communication system.
