Disclosed is a glass plate for substrates, which does not contain B2O3 and can be used as a glass plate for LCD panels. Specifically disclosed is a glass plate for substrates, which contains, in mass % in terms of oxides as a glass matrix composition, 68-80 of SiO2, 0.1-5 of Al2O3, 9.5-12 of MgO, 0-2 of CaO + SrO + BaO, and 6-14 of Na2O + K2O, but does not substantially contain B2O3. This glass plate for substrates has a density of not more than 2.45 g/cm3, an average thermal expansion coefficient of not more than 75 OE10-7/°C in the temperature range of 50-350°C, a glass transition temperature of not less than 600°C, and a brittleness of not more than 6.5 µm-1/2.
