PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate digest data in a short period of time and with little processing load. SOLUTION: A grouping part 140 groups a plurality of video data pieces stored in a video data storing part 110. A group-by-group cut number determining part 150 determines a cut number assigned to each of groups within the range of the length of a digest designated by a digest time determining part 103 on the basis of the length and the number of video data pieces included in each group, and a cut extracting part 160 extracts a portion of the video data belonging to each group as a cut on the basis of the number of digests assigned to each group and stores the portion into a cut data storing part 120. A reproduction control part 170 reads the cut stored in the cut data storing part 120 time sequentially and reproduces the cut as digest data when there is a reproduction instruction of the digest data from a user.
