In the dyeing of aromatic linear polyester fibres with dispersed acetate dyestuffs, improved results are obtained by treating the fibres before or during dyeing with 2 - oxydiphenyl in the presence of Turkey Red oil and an alcohol sparingly soluble in water, such as benzyl alcohol or pine oil. The T-oxydiphenyl, Turkey Red oil and the alcohol may be compounded into a dyeing assistant for addition to a pretreatment bath or to the dyebath. Numerous examples are given.
