An apparatus (1) for exercise therapy comprises a pulse wave sensor (16) which is fixed to a patient to detect pulse waves of the lower limb, a walk sensor (15) for detecting a walking distance by walking of the patient, and a target distance setting portion (30). The target distance setting portion (30) is so configured as to set a target walking distance for exercise therapy based on the walking distance covered by the patient by the time when the pulse waves detected by the pulse wave sensor (16) have a waveform having a nearly flat predetermined shape which is flatter than the arterial pressure waveform when the pulse waves detected by the pulse wave sensor (16) have the waveform having the nearly flat predetermined shape.
