<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal display in which a phase of reflected light of external light is made uniform. <P>SOLUTION: The transflective liquid crystal display has: an illumination side polarizing plate 19 having a transmission axis in a first direction; a plurality of reflection mirrors 17A, 17B and 17C disposed in a stripe shape above the illumination side polarizing plate 19; a liquid crystal layer 13 having a retardation of a quarter of the wavelength of light in a portion above the plurality of reflection mirrors 17A, 17B and 17C and having a retardation of a half of the wavelength of light in a portion above gaps between the plurality of reflection mirrors 17A, 17B and 17C; a plurality of phase shifters 5A, 5B and 5C which are disposed right above the plurality of reflection mirrors 17A, 17B and 17C and have a retardation of a quarter of the wavelength of light, wherein each of the phase shifters has the minimum value of film thickness not less than 95% and less than 100% of the maximum value; and a display side polarizing plate 10 disposed above the plurality of phase shifters 5A, 5B and 5C and having a transmission axis in a direction vertical to the first direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
