<p>A chain tensioner (1) produced at low production cost. A plunger (3) is axially slidably inserted in a closed bottom tubular cylinder (2) having one end open. The plunger (3) has a closed bottom tubular shape open at its insertion end for insertion into the cylinder (2). A female thread (10) is provided on the inner periphery of the plunger (3). A screw rod (12) having on its outer periphery a male screw thread (11) fitted to the female screw (10) is provided in the cylinder (2). A return spring (15) mounted between the plunger (3) and the screw rod (12) urges the plunger (3) in the direction in which the plunger (3) projects from the cylinder (2) to press a chain. The plunger (3) is constructed from a plunger body (8) and a two-part split nut (9). The plunger body (8) has a closed bottom tubular shape open at its insertion end for insertion into the cylinder (2), and the two-part split nut (9) is fitted in the plunger body (8).</p> |
