PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a discharge lamp to be rapidly turned on with respect to detection by a human-sensitive sensor in a remote control illumination system in which the human-sensitive sensor and a luminaire are installed separated from each other, and the luminaire is remote-controlled. SOLUTION: The remote control illumination system 1 includes a slave unit 20 in which the human-sensitive sensor 21 is built and the luminaire 10. The luminaire 10 includes the discharge lamp 11, a lighting circuit 12, and a control part 13. By the slave unit 20, a signal 24 is transmitted when the human-sensitive sensor 21 detects a person. In the luminaire 10, preheating of the discharge lamp 11 is started by the control part 13 when the signal 24 is being received, and the preheating of the discharge lamp 11 is stopped when the control part 13 determines that the signal 24 is not a lighting signal of its own fixture. By this constitution, the discharge lamp 11 can be turned rapidly on against the detection made by the human-sensitive sensor 21, and can be prevented from deterioration due to unnecessary preheating.
