<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exactly recognize a parking target region in a bird's eye view image when parking one's own vehicle at a desired parking target position. <P>SOLUTION: When this parking assistance device assists a driver in carrying out a car parking operation, the parking assistance device takes a picture around the car, generates its image, converts the images into coordinates to form the bird's eye view image, and sets a parking target region in the bird's eye view image.
