PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of fine dimming control without stopping other processing regardless of operation clock function.

SOLUTION: A dimming signal generation part 74 capable of establishing the pulse width of a PWM signal based on an operation clock shorter than the operation clock sets the signal so that the duty ratio may be nearly constant based on the previous duty of the PWM signal. Thus, regardless of the operation clock, the frequency of the PWM signal can be changed finely continuously without stopping other processing of a DSP (digital signal processor) 56, and fine dimming control can be made.
