An apparatus for the immersion of an openmouthed container, not shown, in a liquid bath, e.g. for anodizing, has a support, e.g. a rack 16, 17, to which is tiltably secured a member, e.g. a frame 23, to which the container may be attached so that it can rock to raise and lower its mouth, the frame 23 carrying a float 44 so disposed as to keep the container in downwardly inclined position when not immersed and, due to the buoyancy of the float, in upwardly inclined position during immersion, the float 44 having an open bottom. The float 44 is mounted by wire 46 and a U-piece 47 on a stirrup 42 which carries a cathode 43 and is carried by a two-piece U-shaped bracket 26, one piece 27, 29 of which is detachably secured to the frame 23. The frame 23 has a hook 24 and a wire clamp 25 for supporting the flanged mouth of the container which surrounds the float 44 and cathode 43. The arms 28, 29'of the bracket 26 are connected through beryllium copper spring strips 30, 31 to current-conducting rails 16, 17 which form opposite sides of the rack and are insulated from each other. The arm 38 is removably connected to the base 27 of the bracket 26 and is insulated therefrom, so that arm 28, frame 23 (to which arm 28 is rigidly secured), hook 24, clamp 25, and hence the container, are positive, arm 29 and stirrup 42 connecting the cathode 43 to the negative pole of the supply. The rails 16, 17 may be carried by a conveyer, and when the apparatus is immersed the float 44 pivots the apparatus and the container about the strips 30, 31 to release air and other gases from the container, stops 49 on arms 48 limiting the extent of the pivotal movement. |
