The covering (2) has a passage opening (17) for a connecting cable (5), where the protective covering covers a connecting element (4) i.e. D-sub-plug connector, in a full-laminar manner when the covering is in an unfolded condition. The covering is made of rigid material i.e. cardboard material, with a thickness of about 0.5-2 millimeter, where the protective covering is cut from a flat material and unfoldable in a storage condition. A rectangular base surface is connected with a rectangular front surface at an edge and a head surface (14) at another edge.
