An apparatus (100, 200) meant to be interposed between a wired device (700, 800) and a wireless device (600, 900) gathers information concerning the functions of which each of the wired device (700, 800) and wireless device (600, 900) are capable, passing on signals from the wireless device (600, 900) to the wired device (700, 800) to perform an audio function if the wired device (700, 800) is determined to be present and/or capable of performing the audio function, performing the audio function if capable of doing so and if the wired device (700, 800) is determined to not be present and/or incapable of performing the audio function, and responding to the wireless device (600, 900) as if the audio function were successfully performed if incapable of doing so and if the wired device (700, 800) is determined to not be present and/or incapable of performing the audio function.
