PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pen type input device which detects a moving track of a character input in which a pen point is temporarily separated away and can be made compact and lightened in weight. SOLUTION: A three-dimensional acceleration sensor for detecting accelerations in X, Y and Z directions of the pen point is housed in the pen point of a pen-shaped case, a three-dimensional moving track is detected by continuously detecting an acceleration of the pen point for drawing a handwritten character on a writing plane from an input start till an input end, the writing plane is detected from the three-dimensional moving track, and a contact moving track belonging to the writing plane is extracted from the three-dimensional moving track.
