<p>Disclosed is a toxic compound detoxification method, which is useful for the detoxification of a toxic compound containing arsenic or the like efficiently. The toxic compound detoxification method is characterized by contacting a methyl radical and/or a carboxymethyl radical with a toxic compound containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of arsenic, antimony and selenium to detoxify the toxic compound. In a preferred embodiment of the toxic compound detoxification method, the radical is produced by the irradiation with light. In another preferred embodiment of the toxic compound detoxification method, the supply source of the radical is at least one member selected from the group consisting of acetic acid, methanol, ethanol, acetic acid anhydride, propionic acid, butanoic acid and formic acid.</p> |
