PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting device having a long life and high power. SOLUTION: The light-emitting device has a pedestal, a light-emitting element, and a light-transmitting member containing a wavelength conversion member for absorbing at least one portion of light from the light-emitting element for converting to light having a different wavelength. The pedestal has a pedestal column section to which the light-emitting element is fixed. The pedestal column section has a flat plate at the light emission side of the light-emitting element. The flat plate has a through-hole where light from the light-emitting element passes. The light-transmitting member is disposed on the flat plate so that the through-hole is blocked.
