摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and apparatus efficiently forming an engagement guide surface without increasing an apparatus cost and needing more apparatus installation space. SOLUTION: While a rotary tool 94 is positioned at a predetermined angle and position with respect to a hub sleeve held by a tool rotating device 12, the hub sleeve and the rotary tool 94 are successively rotated synchronously to each other to cause the tool 94 to bite into the hub sleeve. The rotary tool 94 includes one cutting edge 98, wherein the cutting edge 98 cuts a corner of a spline during a period while the tool rotates once but it is disengaged from the spline during other periods. Thus, while the rotary tool 94 is positioned at the cutting position where it bites into the spline, a spline to be cut next is moved to a cut position by the rotation of the hub sleeve. Rotation of the hub sleeve in the specified number of times and cutting of the tool 94 in a specified amount form the engagement guide surface at one of corners at each end of the plurality of splines.
