PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of making a partially equal magnification correction with higher accuracy by determining a reference color for a displacement check pattern for use as a reference color with the least displacement, and then making the partially equal magnification correction. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes an image forming section 2 that forms a plurality of color toner images; a plurality of reading sections that read the corresponding formed toner images; a calculating section by which amounts of displacement of the color toner images in a plurality of corresponding areas into which an image formation area is divided in a main scanning direction is calculated from the reading result of the reading section; and a control section 8 that controls the operation of the image forming section 2. The control section 8 causes the image forming section 2 to form a reference color determination toner image 92. From the operating result by a CPU relative to the reading result of the reference color determination toner image 92 by the reading section, the color with the least displacement is determined as the reference color. The control section 8 causes the image forming section 2 to form a pattern image 90 for the partially equal magnification correction in order to check the amount of displacement in other color in each area based on the reference color.
