The method involves supplying fresh air and recirculation exhaust gas to a combustion chamber of an internal-combustion engine i.e. diesel engine. A desired value for thermal capacity of the mixture of the fresh air and the exhaust gas is determined to obtain a pre-determined flow of a cylinder internal pressure at a crank angle. An amount of the recirculation exhaust gas and an amount of the fresh air are selected such that the desired predetermined value for the thermal capacity of the mixture of the fresh air and the exhaust gas is obtained.
