An endoscope apparatus 1 of the present invention includes: a CCD 12; a plurality of LEDs 11a to 11d for illuminating the field of vision for image pickup of the CCD 12; and a dimming circuit 9 for detecting the brightness in the illumination area of each of the plurality of LEDs 11a to 11d using the video signal obtained by the CCD 12 and dimming light for each of the LEDs 11a to 11d based on the detected result, and the LEDs 11a to 11d are individually provided with respect to the CCD 12 at the positions corresponding to the illumination area of each of the LEDs 11a to 11d (the divided screens 16a to 16d) when the area dimming section 17 of the dimming circuit 9 detects the brightness of the illumination areas of the plurality of LEDs 11a to 11d.
