A device for advancing a guidewire (632) in a human body may include an elongate probe (620)having a proximal portion, a distal portion, and at least one lumen having a proximal opening and a distal opening. A curved guide member (624) may be slidably disposed within the lumen of the probe and may include at least one guidewire lumen. A portion of the guide member may be configured to be advanced out of the distal opening of the probe lumen to assume a curved shape. There may also be a slide member (634) coupled with the probe and the guide member to advance the guide member out of the distal opening of the probe. The device may also be used as part of a system for localizing neural tissue in a patient body.
