A metal-clad polyimide resin base material made of a laminate which comprises a polyimide resin substrate and a metal foil directly covering one or both sides of the substrate, characterized in that the surface of the metal foil to be mated with the polyimide resin substrate has a surface roughness (Rzjis) of 3.0µm or below and a surface area ratio (B) of 1.25 to 2.50 as defined as a ratio of a surface area (three-dimensional surface area: Aµm2) determined by measuring a two-dimensional region of 6550µm2 in surface area according to the laser method to the two-dimensional surface area of the region, namely, [A/6550], and contains chromium in an amount of 2.0mg/m2 or above per unit area of the two-dimensional region.
