The invention relates to a rigid construction element made of leather, leather substitute or the like, comprising a plurality of strips (1) of leather, leather substitute or the like, said strips being superposed in one and the same longitudinal direction and combined with one another in such a way as to form a compact block (3) of superposed strips, it being possible for said block to be worked without the strips losing their cohesion, said block being cut in a transverse direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and/or in the longitudinal direction so as to form said rigid construction element. Advantageously, said rigid construction element comprises at least one stiffener. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a rigid element such as this and to the use thereof.
