PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silanol derivative of a cage-type silsesquioxane having a reactive functional group, which is improved in compatibility while minimizing potential possibilities of property deterioration due to a silanol group. SOLUTION: There are provided a monosilanol derivative of a polyhedral silsesquioxane structure represented by formula (1): [RSiO<SB>1.5</SB>]<SB>n</SB>[RSiO<SB>2</SB>H] and a method for producing the same by reacting a trialkoxyalkylsilane with water in the presence of a base in an organic solvent, wherein R is a methyl group, a phenyl group or a group having a reactive functional group selected from a vinyl group, a 3-acryloyloxypropyl group, a 3-methacryloyloxypropyl group and a 3-glycidoxypropyl group, a plurality of symbols R on the same silsesquioxane molecule may be the same or different, provided that averagely at least two are the group having the functional group, and n is 8, 10, 12 or 14.
