PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of calculating the coefficient of friction of a metal plate which is higher in accuracy than in the conventional practice and a forming simulation method using it. SOLUTION: In this method of calculating the coefficient of friction of the metal plate, the radius of curvature of the metal plate is taken in as a variable in addition to specific pressure, forming speed and temperature, the lattice data of the coefficient of friction taking these four as the variables is determined and values between lattice points in this lattice data are interpolated by a sectional linear function. In the calculating method, by making the mesh elements of an analytic model into triangles, the curvatureκ<SB>M</SB>of the metal plate and the curvatureκ<SB>D</SB>of a die are determined by calculation using the discrete geometry. Equivalent radius R of curvature is determined from the values of theseκ<SB>M</SB>,κ<SB>D</SB>and the equivalent radius R of curvature is used as the radius of curvature of the metal plate. Furthermore, in the forming simulation method of the metal plate, the forming simulation by a finite element method is performed by using the coefficient of friction of the metal plate determined by the above method.
