PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slide member and a roller rocker arm type valve gear whose friction loss at a sliding surface is further reduced compared with heretofore. SOLUTION: The skirt portion 13 which is the sliding surface of a piston 10 is coated with a highly oriented specific graphite 15 (exhibiting a remarkable low frictional property) in which the full width at half maximum is equal to or less than 7°in the rocking curve at a (002) diffraction position of graphite-2H by X-ray diffraction measurement.
