A photographing device for detecting appearance of a person and a method thereof are provided to easily edit a recorded video without watching all the video by detecting appearance of a person in a video through comparing a key frame which is pre-stored in order to edit the video file. In case a specific individual existing in a video image is a new individua(S230), a controller stores one image in a storage and the controller adds among the image about the specific individual existing in the photographed image to the key frame of the individual(S240). The controller detected scenes where an individual exists(S250). The controller stores the information about the detected result as described above with the photographic image in the storage(S260). If an edit command is received by a user(S265), the controller extracts the information toward the scene of the photographic image stored in the storage with the photographic image. The controller provides list of persons appeared in the video to a display device(S270). If a specific individual is picked from the list of persons on the display(S280), the controller performs an editing of the scenes that has the selected individual(S290).
