A method for effectively manufacturing 5-ortho-tolyl pentene is provided to secure process stability, to maintain the separation efficiency of a purifying column and to economically manufacture 5-ortho-tolyl penten by preventing 5-ortho-tolyl pentene from being generated in a purifying column process as a high boiling point material, through acid treatment. A method for effectively manufacturing 5-ortho-tolyl pentene by reacting O-xylene and 1,3-butadiene in the presence of alkali metal catalyst comprises a step of, after processing 5-ortho-tolyl pentene as a reaction product with deionized water, removing the alkali metal catalyst from the 5-ortho-tolyl pentene through acid treatment using acidic solution.
