It is possible to provide an encryption device, a decryption device, an encryption method, and a decryption method capable of effectively performing encryption and decryption by using the packet type judgment result. An encryption/decryption device (100) includes: a packet reception unit (111) which acquires a packet; an encryption engine (125) which is formed by hardware and encrypts or decrypts a packet; an encryption engine (115) which encrypts or decrypts a packet by using software; a head data identification unit (117) which judges the real time feature of the acquired packet according to the header information on the acquired packet; and an encryption/decryption process judgment unit (112) decides the acquired packet encryption destination or decryption destination in accordance with the real time feature from an encryption engine (125) and the encryption engine (115). Since it is possible to separate the encryption by hardware from encryption by hardware according to the packet real time feature, it is possible to effectively perform encryption and decryption.
